Wednesdays, floodlights, Soers!
The floodlights will also be on at the CHIO on Wednesday
It’s time for a folk festival and top sport again at last, the CHIO Aachen again at last. The top riders and horses in the world are awaited at the Aachen Soers again from September 10th-19th – the show holds a spectacular innovation in store for us on Wednesday evening.
It is going to be a CHIO Aachen that the visitors are familiar with: With all five CHIO disciplines, with the most famous classes in the world, with an Opening Ceremony, the “Horse & Symphony” concert and Soers Sonntag. With “as much normality as possible”, commented Frank Kemperman, Chairman of the organisers, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV). Because of course the safety of the visitors, athletes and employees takes top priority. The ticket sales have meanwhile already begun, whereby tickets can only always be purchased from the Ticket Shop in blocks of twos – two tickets, four tickets, etc. “This enables us to guarantee that the visitors will be sat on the stands in a chess board-like pattern,” is how Kemperman explained the concept that was drawn up jointly with the authorities. The basis for this concept is the fact that only immunised people (recovered or fully vaccinated) or people in possession of a negative Corona test, will be granted access to the showgrounds. “We are already noticing from the many positive reactions how much the people are looking forward to their CHIO,” said Frank Kemperman.
The Show Director himself is particularly looking forward to the Wednesday evening this year. Because the renowned Turkish Airlines – Prize of Europe is namely being staged as a floodlit event for the first time. Tickets are already available from the Online Ticket Shop. The class is one of the most traditional and most important competitions at the CHIO Aachen. Hans Günter Winkler with Halla – the most legendary pair that the sport has ever seen, won the first edition of the classic in 1957. To-date the winner’s list reads like the who’s who of the show jumping sport: Fritz Thiedemann with Meteor, Paul Schockemöhle with Deister, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum with Shutterfly, Marcus Ehning with For Pleasure or Ludger Beerbaum with Ratina Z. For Ludger Beerbaum it is always still “one of the most important classes, which is actually decisive for the week for the individual riders, a good start is extremely important.”. Because the Turkish Airlines – Prize of Europe is one of the top competitions of the sport and the old master is delighted that the class is going to be staged as a floodlit event from now on – at least for the spectators: “It is sensational for the crowd, and it makes a difficult competition even more exciting for the riders.” But also worthwhile. Because the prize-money for the class is being increased from 125,000 Euros up to 200,000 Euros. The last winner of the Turkish Airlines – Prize of Europe was Ben Maher with Explosion in 2019 – the pair that just picked up Olympic gold in Tokyo.
