Thank you HGW!
Commemoration ceremony on Wednesday
Next Wednesday the CHIO Aachen will stand still for a brief moment. The crowd in Aachen will say thank you once again during a commemoration ceremony. Thank you, Hans Günter Winkler, for decades full of passion for the equestrian sport and enthusiasm for the CHIO Aachen. The legendary show-jumper passed away at the start of the week at the age of 91.
“HGW” won the Grand Prix three times here. He once said “The CHIO Aachen is my living-room.” The crowd in Aachen loved him and HGW loved the Aachen crowd. This is where he retired from active competition sport in 1986 and where his fans paid tribute to him two years ago with an emotional gala.
“Together with our spectators we want to celebrate this fantastic sportsman once more and say ‘Thank you HGW’,” said Carl Meulenbergh, President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV). Namely, in exactly the way Hans Günter Winkler would have like it: With a show that focuses on horses, the sport and his victories. Among others the German squads, the Federal Army Riding Academy and the Warendorf State Stud will be taking part.
